There are safety features, like airbags, and parts of your vehicle that need regular maintenance, such as refilling oil, are self-testing. The symbols that light up on your dashboard are alerting you that one of these features requires attention for your safety. It is important that you are able to identify these if they come up, to assess whether the issue requires immediate attention or not.

This is a general guide, please ensure you consult your handbook for any further information specific to your vehicle. Warning lights may be specific to your vehicle.

• Red dashboard lights will usually suggest a potentially serious problem, that may need urgent attention.
• Orange or yellow will typically indicate that something requires servicing or repairing.
• A flashing light may be used to inform the driver of urgency that something requires servicing or repairing.
• Green or blue dashboard lights are usually for more informational purposes, to let you know that a system or utility is in operation. 

This light will illuminate when the ignition is switched out and should extinguish when the engine starts — if the light stays on after or illuminates during a journey, stop immediately, switch off the engine and check the engine oil level. Top it up straight away if the level is low — You can check the oil level by — pulling the dipstick out from under the bonnet and wipe the stick. Slide the dipstick back into its slot, pushing it all the way down, before pulling it out again. See where the line of oil reaches on the stick. If it falls at or below the “Add” line, then you need to add oil. If the warning lamp illuminates, even if the oil level is correct, do not start the engine and seek assistance.

You will see this light when the ignition is switched on and like above should extinguish when the engine starts. If it does not illuminate at all or whilst driving, your battery is not being charged and there is a fault with your charging system. Seek assistance immediately.

This light will illuminate whenever the handbrake is applied, however if it remains on when it isn't this may indicate low brake fluid level. You need to fill the brake fluid up to the MAX mark, and be sure to consult your handbook for the correct fluid you need. You need to regularly check your brake fluid level as it will slowly drop during general wear. If the brake fluid level is too low and brake pedal travel is longer than usual, a brake circuit may have failed, and you need to seek assistance. If the brake fluid level is correct, but the light is still showing, you also need to take your vehicle to your local dealer as this may indicate a sensor fault.

When you switch on the ignition, this light should illuminate briefly to confirm that the system is working properly. If it remains whilst driving, this indicates a malfunction and this should be checked as soon as possible. Always make sure you check your handbook for advice. 

If both the ABS and warning lights show simultaneously whilst driving, reduce speed gradually and immediately move the vehicle to a safe location, ensure to handle the brakes with care and do not use the brake pedal abruptly. Seek assistance. 

This light should illuminate when the ignition is switched on and then go when the engine starts. If it remains whilst the engine is running, this could mean there is a problem with the engine management system, and it should be checked as soon as possible.

If it flashes whilst driving you should reduce your speed until the light illuminates constantly, if it continues to flash avoid heavy acceleration and stop driving and have it checked immediately. If there are no other faults to the engine you can drive it to the dealer, it will be safe to do so.

If this illuminates whilst driving, this means that the engine is too hot. If you see this you should stop the vehicle in a safe location as soon as possible and turn off the engine, turning the heating on to the highest setting could also release some heat. Once the engine has cooled down you can check the coolant levels, if it is below the line of the gauge you should fill up the coolant tank. However, if the light persists this can mean a further issue, and you should seek help from your local dealer.

If this light illuminates, it means that the diesel filter, which catches bits of soot in the exhaust, is blocked. As with any filter, it has to be emptied regularly to maintain performance. You should be able to regenerate the filter by driving for 10 minutes or so at speeds greater than 40 mph.

If this light illuminates, it means that the wind shield washer fluid is low.

If this light flashes, it will indicate there is something wrong with your tyre pressures, which could signify a puncture. You should stop the vehicle in a safe location when you can and check the tyre, if you can not see any problem, but the light continues to flash please seek assistance. 

The airbag warning light or supplemental restraint system will illuminate if one or more of the airbags has been deactivated.

If the high beam light is activated, this symbol will illuminate.

If the fog lights are activated, this symbol will illuminate.

If the rear fog lights are activated this symbol will illuminate.

This light will illuminate when the wind shield defrost has been activated, you should turn this off when the window is clear to save battery consumption.

This light will illuminate when the rear window defrost has been activated, you should turn this off when the window is clear to save battery consumption.
