Across our dealerships, offices and departments, colleagues are swapping lifts for stairs, lunch breaks for power walks and short journeys for extra steps, all with one shared goal: raising money for a charity that touches the lives of so many people across the UK.
And if history tells us anything, it’s that when Ancaster gets behind a cause, we go all in.
Walking Together for Something Bigger
Cancer affects almost everyone in some way. Whether through family, friends, colleagues or personal experiences, many of us know the emotional and physical impact it can have. That’s why supporting The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity means so much to our teams.
The Royal Marsden is one of the world’s leading cancer centres, funding groundbreaking research, pioneering treatments and exceptional patient care. The charity helps provide state-of-the-art equipment, supports specialist nurses and researchers and ensures patients receive the very best treatment possible. (justgiving.com)
This challenge isn’t just about numbers on a fitness tracker. Every single step represents support, awareness and fundraising that could make a genuine difference to people facing cancer.
From Friendly Competition to Serious Commitment
What started as a fitness challenge has quickly become a company-wide movement.
Teams from across Ancaster have created their own fundraising groups, each bringing their own energy, humour and competitive spirit into the challenge. From the brilliantly named RedHot ChilliSteppers to TopFloor Trekkers, We Thought This Was a Pub Crawl and Stiff Legs and Bad Decisions, the creativity alone deserves recognition. (justgiving.com)
But behind the fun team names is genuine determination.
Every day throughout May, colleagues are finding new ways to push themselves further. Sales teams are clocking up extra laps around the showroom floor. Office teams are organising lunchtime walks. Staff are walking before work, after work and even squeezing in evening miles with family and friends.
The challenge has created a brilliant atmosphere across the business. Conversations now revolve around daily step counts, fundraising milestones and who is secretly doing midnight walks to stay ahead of the leaderboard.
Naturally, a little healthy competition has emerged.
Building on an Incredible Legacy
This isn’t the first time Ancaster has stepped up for The Royal Marsden and previous year’s results set the bar incredibly high.
In 2024, more than 90 Ancaster colleagues across 21 teams took part in the Million Steps in May challenge. Together, the company achieved an astonishing 23,435,434 steps and raised more than £14,000 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
The scale of the achievement was remarkable.
Some standout performances included colleagues completing over 50,000 steps in a single day, while teams pushed each other week after week to climb the rankings. The challenge became a company-wide talking point and united departments that don’t usually work side by side.
Most importantly, it proved what can happen when people come together behind a meaningful cause.
This year, the challenge has returned bigger, louder and even more ambitious.
The Power of Team Spirit
One of the most inspiring parts of the challenge has been seeing how everyone has embraced it together.
It doesn’t matter whether someone is naturally sporty or just starting out with walking more regularly because every contribution counts. That sense of inclusivity is what makes the challenge so special.
There’s been encouragement between teams, donations from customers and suppliers and support from family members cheering colleagues on from the sidelines. The fundraising pages have already received generous donations and messages of encouragement from supporters who understand just how important this cause is. (justgiving.com)
For many participants, the challenge has also become personal motivation to improve wellbeing, stay active and reconnect with colleagues outside of day-to-day work pressures.
The result is something much bigger than a fundraising campaign. It’s become a shared experience.
Why The Royal Marsden Matters
The work carried out by The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity changes lives every single day.
Funds raised help support pioneering research into new cancer treatments, early diagnosis methods and advanced technologies that can improve patient outcomes across the country. (justgiving.com)
The charity also helps create better environments for patients and families during incredibly difficult times. From specialist treatment centres to emotional support services, donations directly impact the quality of care people receive.
For many within the Ancaster family, supporting The Royal Marsden is deeply personal. Colleagues, customers and loved ones have all been touched by cancer in some way, making this challenge far more than a workplace initiative.
Every donation helps continue life-saving work.
Every step helps raise awareness.
Every person involved is helping drive the challenge forward.
More Than Just a Number
A million steps sounds enormous and it is.
To put it into perspective, one million steps is roughly equivalent to walking from London to Switzerland. It takes commitment, consistency and determination to reach that target over the course of a month.
Collectively, Ancaster teams are proving that those numbers are achievable when everyone contributes together.
That’s what makes this challenge so powerful.
No single person carries the responsibility alone. It’s about teamwork, motivation and supporting each other throughout the month. Whether someone contributes 5,000 steps or 50,000, every effort matters.
While the fundraising target is important, the challenge is also about visibility, starting conversations, raising awareness and showing support for people affected by cancer.
How You Can Support the Challenge
The support so far has already been incredible, but there is still plenty of time to get involved.
Every donation made to the Ancaster Group fundraising page helps support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and the vital work they carry out every day. (justgiving.com)
Whether it’s the cost of a coffee, a larger corporate donation or simply sharing the page with friends and family, every contribution genuinely makes a difference.

Stepping Forward Together
As the month continues, one thing is already clear: this challenge is about far more than fitness trackers and fundraising totals.
It’s about community.
It’s about colleagues supporting each other.
It’s about honouring loved ones, helping future patients and contributing towards life-changing cancer care and research.
Most of all, it’s about showing what can happen when people come together with a shared purpose.
From every early morning walk to every lunchtime lap around the dealership, Ancaster colleagues are proving that small steps really can lead to something extraordinary.
This May, those steps are helping make a real difference. (justgiving.com)
