MG has long been recognised for offering some of the most affordable electric and hybrid vehicles on the market. Now, the brand is widening its appeal even further by introducing petrol-powered versions of the MG3 supermini and MG ZS compact SUV—offering customers even greater choice at an even more accessible price point.
Affordable Entry Points for MG3 and MG ZS
The new petrol MG3 starts at just £16,495, making it £2,000 more affordable than its hybrid counterpart, the MG3 Hybrid+. Meanwhile, the petrol MG ZS has a starting price of £19,495, offering a £2,500 saving compared to the ZS Hybrid+. These new additions join the MG HS, which remains the brand’s only other non-electrified option at £24,995.
Performance and Efficiency: What to Expect
While the hybrid variants offer stronger performance and efficiency, the new petrol options still provide great value for money.
MG3 1.5-Litre Petrol
The petrol-powered MG3 features a 1.5-litre engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, delivering 113bhp. It achieves 0-62mph in 10.8 seconds and returns a combined fuel economy of 46.3mpg. Although the MG3 Hybrid+ is noticeably quicker with its 192bhp output and 8.0-second 0-62mph time, the petrol version offers a budget-friendly alternative without compromising on MG’s signature driving experience.
The MG3 SE trim, the only option at launch, comes well-equipped with:
- 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Seven-inch digital driver display
- Satellite navigation
- Air conditioning
- Rear parking camera
- Cruise control and advanced safety features, including lane keep assist and traffic jam assist
MG ZS 1.5-Litre Petrol
The MG ZS also benefits from the 1.5-litre petrol engine and five-speed manual gearbox, delivering a 0-62mph time of 12.5 seconds and a combined fuel economy of 43.5mpg. While it may not match the ZS Hybrid+’s 8.7-second acceleration or 55.4mpg efficiency, it remains a practical and economical choice for families looking for an affordable SUV.
