Car buyers are being encouraged to add a splash of colour to Britain’s streets this year, following the revelation that grey remained the UK’s most popular new car colour for the seventh consecutive year in 2024.
To break the monotony of ‘Grey UK’, Renault is urging drivers to be bolder and brighter with their car colour choices. This follows a recent survey by Renault, which revealed:
- 69% of Brits say colour has a positive impact on their mood
- More than two-fifths (43%) associate bright colours with happiness
- The top three words associated with bright colours are happiness (43%) bold (35%), and joy (34%)
- One in five (20%) say that seeing a brightly coloured car on the road makes them smile
- 1 in 7 (14%) believe that drivers of brightly coloured cars must have a fun personality
The 2024 car colour data, compiled by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), confirmed that grey was the UK’s favourite car colour yet again, proving that the majority of British drivers still opt for monochrome shades.
However, in a bid to inject some much-needed colour onto the roads, the new Renault 5 has arrived, featuring two bold and eye-catching shades - Yellow Pop! and Green Pop!
“Britons are famously conservative when it comes to choosing car colours, but with the launch of the Renault 5 and its two Pop! colour options, we aim to bring some joie de vivre to the UK’s roads. Our research shows that by adding colour, we can also bring joy and positivity to people,” said Adam Wood, Managing Director of Renault UK.
The all-electric Renault 5 is a contemporary reimagining of the legendary original, which was produced between 1972 and 1985, selling 5.5 million units worldwide. Combining striking design, cutting-edge technology and affordability, the Renault 5 has already been recognised with several prestigious awards, including:
- Top Gear Car of the Year
- Best Car of the Year
- Car of the Year 2025, awarded by a panel of 60 automotive journalists from 23 European countries
Adding another layer of excitement, the Renault 5 in Pop Yellow! has already sparked anticipation for the return of the classic ‘Yellow Car’ game, which dates back over 400 years to the rapeseed oil trade.
Renault conducted a survey that also found that one in five (20%) people play the game on road trips, proving that a bright-coloured car isn’t just fun for the driver but for other road users too. Despite this, nearly two-thirds (65%) of Brits have never owned a yellow car but that could be about to change!
The Renault 5 is available to order now, for those looking to brighten up Britain’s roads. And for those who prefer a more traditional colour palette, it’s also available in Arctic White, Diamond Black and Midnight Blue.
