Hyundai is reinforcing its position as a leader in automotive innovation by expanding its research and development (R&D) facilities in Europe by over 25,000 square meters. This strategic move aligns with the Group’s commitment to sustainable mobility and future-oriented technologies.
Key developments include the completion of an expanded test centre at the Nürburgring and the upcoming opening of the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre’s new Square Campus in March 2025.
Enhanced Testing Facilities at Nürburgring
Hyundai has spent over a decade refining durability testing at the Nürburgring, having pioneered the practice in 2011 before establishing a dedicated test centre in 2013. The latest expansion adds 834 square meters of cutting-edge facilities, including:
- New workshop areas
- Specialised laboratories
- High-voltage EV charging capabilities
These upgrades strengthen Hyundai’s ability to develop electric high-performance vehicles while continuing advancements in conventional engine technology.

New Square Campus to Elevate European R&D
Hyundai will further strengthen its European R&D footprint with the opening of the Square Campus in the Rhine-Main region. This 25,000-square-meter facility is designed to set new benchmarks in vehicle performance and innovation.
The centre will feature:
- Europe’s largest four-wheel NVH (noise, vibration & harshness) dynamometer
- Advanced chassis and powertrain dynamometers for precise vehicle testing
- Cutting-edge EV, ADAS, infotainment, and electrification research
By reducing the need for on-road testing, these technologies will accelerate vehicle development while delivering solutions tailored to European market demands.
