Electric vehicles (EVs) are no longer the future - they’re very much the here and now. But despite more EVs on the road than ever, there are still a few rumours and misunderstandings debunked.

At Ancaster, we hear it all - and we’re here to set the record straight. So let’s bust some of the biggest myths about Nissan EVs and show you what driving electric is really like.

Myth 1: “EVs don’t have enough range for everyday use”

Truth: Most modern EVs offer ranges that easily cover the average UK driver’s daily mileage - which is just 20 miles per day. Many models comfortably achieve 150–300+ miles on a full charge, depending on driving style and battery size. With options from the Nissan ARIYA to the upcoming All-New LEAF or All-New MICRA, there is a car for every journey.

Whether you’re commuting, school-running or road-tripping, you’ll likely need to charge less often than you think.

Myth 2: “There aren’t enough chargers around”

Truth: The UK charging network is growing faster than ever. There are now over 60,000 public charging connectors, and more are added every week - including rapid chargers that get you back on the road in as little as 30 minutes.

And don’t forget, most EV owners charge at home, meaning your car is ready every morning, no petrol station detour needed.

Myth 3: “Charging takes forever”

Truth: Not anymore. Charging technology has come a long way — and continues to improve.

A rapid charger can give you up to 80% charge in 30–40 minutes, perfect for topping up on a coffee stop. Home charging overnight means your car is ready to go each morning, like your phone. Many EVs also support scheduled charging, letting you take advantage of cheaper overnight electricity rates.

So while it’s not quite as fast as filling up with petrol, the convenience of charging at home or while you’re doing other things makes a big difference.

Myth 4: “EVs are complicated to drive”

Truth: In fact, they’re easier.

EVs are automatic by default, with no gears to change and smooth acceleration, making them ideal for both new and experienced drivers. There’s no clutch, no engine noise, and no stalling - just press the pedal and go. Models also come with handy tech like one-pedal driving, which uses regenerative braking to slow the car when you lift your foot - making traffic and city driving a breeze.

Myth 5: “EVs don’t work well in cold weather”

Truth: Like any car, EVs can be affected by temperature - but modern electric vehicles are built to handle it.

Cold weather may slightly reduce range, just as it can affect fuel efficiency in petrol or diesel cars. But today's EVs include battery temperature management systems, pre-conditioning features, and heated interiors to keep everything running smoothly.

Once you try it, you might never want to go back.

The Bottom Line:

Electric cars aren’t just the future - they’re the now. And Nissan is leading the charge, with a range of innovative electric vehicles designed for real life. From the iconic All-New LEAF to the powerful and stylish Nissan ARIYA, there’s an EV to suit every lifestyle.
