An extra day off is the perfect excuse to pack the car, pick a destination and head somewhere different. Whether that means fresh sea air, winding country roads, a family adventure or simply escaping the everyday for a few hours, a great road trip starts with the right car.

So, where could you go this Bank Holiday? We've picked some road-trip ideas and matched each one with a car from the Ancaster family that could be perfect for the journey.

Brighton & the South Coast | OMODA 9 SHS

Best for: A comfortable long-distance escape

Sunshine, sea air and fish and chips on the beach. Brighton is a Bank Holiday classic, and the OMODA 9 SHS has all the ingredients for getting there in comfort.

With up to 93 miles of electric-only range and more than 700 miles of combined range, the plug-in hybrid gives you plenty of flexibility for longer journeys. There's also a generous 660-litre boot, giving you room for luggage, picnic bags and everything else that somehow ends up coming along for the weekend.

Heated and ventilated seats add another layer of comfort, while the spacious, technology-packed cabin should make those motorway miles feel that little bit easier.

And if Brighton isn't far enough? OMODA has already demonstrated the 9's touring credentials with a 730-mile journey across nine European countries on one charge and one tank of fuel.

The Cotswolds | JAECOO 7 SHS-P

Best for: Country roads and getting away from it all

Honey-coloured villages, country pubs and miles of beautiful scenery make the Cotswolds difficult to beat for a Bank Holiday drive.

The JAECOO 7 SHS-P feels made for this kind of escape. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain offers up to 56 miles of electric-only driving and a combined WLTP range of up to 745 miles, giving you the freedom to explore without constantly thinking about the next stop.

That means you can spend less time worrying about the journey and more time deciding whether Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold or somewhere completely off the planned route should be your next destination.

The New Forest | Dacia Bigster

Best for: Family adventures

Sometimes the best road trips are the ones where you bring everything.

Walking boots? Pack them. Bikes? Bring them along. Picnic? Definitely. An extra bag that nobody remembers packing? There's probably room for that too.

The Dacia Bigster is a natural match for a family Bank Holiday adventure. Dacia's largest SUV offers five seats and, depending on the version, up to 677 litres of boot space, making it easy to load up for a full day or weekend away.

Head towards the New Forest and you've got woodland walks, open heathland and plenty of places to stop and explore. With hybrid options available, Bigster combines the space you'd expect from a large SUV with electrified driving.

The Peak District | Renault Rafale E-Tech

Best for: Making the drive part of the holiday

A road trip isn't always about getting somewhere as quickly as possible.

Sometimes the road itself is the best bit.

The sweeping scenery and twisting roads of the Peak District give you plenty of reasons to enjoy the journey, and the Renault Rafale E-Tech makes an excellent companion.

Its striking coupé-SUV design is backed up by a comfortable, technology-filled interior, while available 4Control advanced four-wheel steering is designed to bring extra agility and control to the drive. Google built-in on selected versions can also help with navigation when you're looking for your next stop.

Destination chosen. Playlist on. Now enjoy getting there.

The Kent Coast | Changan Deepal S07

Best for: An all-electric day trip

Fancy an electric road trip this Bank Holiday?

The Changan Deepal S07 offers up to 295 miles of WLTP electric range, giving you plenty of scope for a day exploring the Kent coast.

There is space for five, a 510-litre boot plus a useful 125-litre storage compartment under the bonnet, so there's room for everything from beach bags to walking gear.

The panoramic glass roof can make the cabin feel even more open on a bright Bank Holiday morning, while heated and ventilated front seats and a 14-speaker sound system help make the journey part of the experience.

Charge up, load the boot and see where the day takes you.

The Jurassic Coast | MG HS Hybrid+

Best for: A comfortable family getaway

Dramatic cliffs, coastal towns and some seriously good views. The Jurassic Coast has all the ingredients for a memorable Bank Holiday road trip.

For a journey like this, the MG HS Hybrid+ makes plenty of sense.

Its hybrid system can switch between electric and petrol power as you drive, giving you the flexibility of electrified driving without needing to plan charging stops into your journey.

Inside, there's plenty of room for family life, with useful storage throughout the cabin and a generous luggage area. The HS Hybrid+ has also been designed with long journeys in mind, with comfortable seating and a quieter cabin helping make longer stretches behind the wheel more relaxing.

Because after a few hours on the road, comfort really does matter.

The Lake District | Nissan X-Trail e-POWER

Best for: The big family road trip

If you're going to make the most of a three-day weekend, why not go further?

The Lake District rewards the extra miles with mountains, lakes and some of Britain's most spectacular scenery. For a big family adventure, the Nissan X-Trail e-POWER is difficult to overlook.

Available with five or seven seats, X-Trail gives families the flexibility to bring more people along for the adventure. Five-seat versions offer up to 575 litres of luggage capacity, while Nissan's e-POWER technology delivers an electric-motor-driven feel without needing to plug the car in to charge.

There's also plenty of technology to make a long journey easier, including available ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link.

So load the bags, choose the snacks carefully and prepare for a proper Bank Holiday adventure.

The Brecon Beacons | Hyundai SANTA FE Hybrid

Best for: Bringing everyone and everything

Big trip. Big scenery. Big car.

The Hyundai SANTA FE Hybrid is a great choice when your Bank Holiday plans involve family, luggage and plenty of adventure.

Available with six or seven seats, SANTA FE has the flexibility to accommodate larger families while still delivering the comfort you want on a longer journey. There's also a spacious 725-litre boot capacity, giving you plenty of room for bags and outdoor gear.

Its self-charging hybrid powertrain means there's no need to plug in, while the spacious interior and range of driver-assistance technology are designed to make longer journeys more comfortable.

For a weekend of walking, exploring and making the most of the outdoors, SANTA FE is ready for the job.
