A Million steps
This month at Ancaster, we decided to complete the Million Step Challenge by getting into groups and walking the steps, all whilst raising money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Nearly every department in the company had a team, which consisted of 3-4 members, and we had a total of 21 groups, which worked out to over 90 staff members signing up.
For each team to reach their goal, they would need to walk around 8,300 steps per day. Sounds do-able right? Considering a large majority of our staff are salespeople and their jobs revolve around being on their feet all day, we thought they’d do that easily. The office staff were going to have to put the steps in!
From day 1 everyone got very into it, who knew salespeople would be so competitive! We had the sales teams running up, down and around the dealerships all day, IT working extra hard between sites to get their steps in as well as donations, and the office teams going on long lunch time walks to accumulate their step counts.
Within the first week we already had hit a million steps as a company with the Eltham Wanderers team hitting 271,296 steps in their first week. Impressive. In the following week the Deadline Chasers walked a whopping 409,105 steps in their second week, claiming their first victory of the challenge. By the end of week two, we had walked over 5 million steps as company.
We had a few impressive days over the course of the month, with Vanessa, Sales Manager of Hyundai Croydon, walking over 50,000 steps in a day which is equivalent to around 25 miles!
Nitesh, Head of the IT department, did an impressive walk around Croydon and out to Coulsdon and back in which he racked up over 33,000 steps and Richard, Group Financial Manager, stomped his way to over 37,000 in a day! We are very impressed with you all!
As a company we walked 23,435,434 million steps which is as huge success.
The whole challenge has been a huge success from family members to customers to staff members all donating and getting involved. We’ve had a huge success on social media with lots of shares and positive well wishes.
We managed to raise over £14,000 and counting for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity which is an organisation close to all our hearts, we’ve all been affected by someone being poorly and using the service that the Royal Marsden provide to nurse them back to health or hospice.
We did have some competitions as well and we’re very happy to announce them.
Most Steps in a day – Vanessa, Nitesh and Richard.
Best Team Name (as chosen by the Royal Marsden) - CTRL ALT DEFEET with On Cloud Wine as a close second!
Most steps walked in a month – The Deadline Chasers with 1,716,560 million steps.
Most amount of money raised – The Four Directions with £5,626.
We had such a brilliant time taking part in the challenge as well as working closely with The Royal Marsden to achieve our donation goal and beyond whilst having lots of fun.
