At Ancaster, we’re proud of the incredible people who make our business what it is. In our 5 Minutes With series, we’re shining a spotlight on the talented individuals across our group, exploring their journeys in the automotive industry and uncovering the stories that inspire their success.

This week, we’re speaking with Stuart Aldridge, General Sales Manager at Hyundai Welling, who has been with us for an impressive 20 years.

What inspired you to get into the motor industry? Was it always a passion, or did you fall into it?
“Always something I wanted to do, I like cars so seemed an obvious choice.”

What was your first car, and do you have any fun or unforgettable stories about it?
“An old BMW 3 Series that the radio fell out of the dashboard whenever I pulled away, and the screen wash turned on once in the middle of summer in traffic on the M25 and didn’t stop until the bottle ran out… it was so embarrassing!”

What’s the most exciting part of your job as a manager?
“Seeing the team deliver the best service they can and customers returning to change their cars because of the experience they have had here.”

How has the automotive industry changed since you first started?
“Yes, there’s a lot more paperwork now! Customers research what they are coming to see a lot more before coming into our showroom. Even in the last five years of being a Hyundai retailer, the product has changed hugely, which I’m sure will continue.”

What’s a common misconception people have about working in a car dealership?
“That we just sit in a nice clean showroom, but they don’t think about moving the forecourt, checking cars in from transporters in the rain and cold, and the mucky jobs!”

What’s the most memorable moment you’ve had working in Ancaster so far?
“Welling receiving the Sales Retailer of the Year award from Hyundai UK.”

Do you have a personal favourite car in the showroom right now?
“The new Santa Fe, it looks immense!”

What’s a piece of advice you’d give to someone considering a career in the automotive industry?
“Come and give it a go, there is always lots going on, and it’s a rewarding industry to be involved in… and you get to drive nice cars!”

Stuart’s enthusiasm for his role and dedication to delivering exceptional service highlight why he’s such a valued member of the Ancaster family. Stay tuned for more insights from our team in the next 5 Minutes With.
