Ancaster were pleased to sponsor another great weekend of Motor Sport at Crystal Palace over the May Bank Holiday weekend!
Following last year's success of over 4,000 spectators attending the event, Motorsport at the Palace 2011 had a lot to live up to. But the number of attendees this year topped the charts with an audience of over 6,000 and judging by the smiles on the faces of the spectators and the drivers, a fantastic time was had by all!
Stephen Wood Managing Director of Ancaster said" We are truly delighted that the event was a huge success. Motorsport at the Palace is fast becoming a popular community event and as part of the community, we are privileged to sponsor the show. We worked closely with Sevenoaks and District Motor Club to ensure that the event was another thoroughly enjoyable and action packed Bank Holiday weekend, which ended without the need for umbrellas…but only just!""
In fact, it was only moments after Terence Kitson's Cooper T 72 had completed the final run of the day that the rain begin to fall, but by then the thousands of spectators were on their way home, having enjoyed a fantastic day of racing!
The on-track battles for fastest times of the weekend were finally won by Mike Field in the Stohr DSR, but by the narrowest of margins. Fyrth Cross, driving the Ensign LNF 3, ran the Stohr to a close finish with a tiny gap of five hundredths of a second separating the two cars. Congratulations to Mike who posted a best time of 35.85, and to Fyrth who managed an impressive 35.9. The Stohr DSR was also the star of the show on Monday where John Hewat topped pole position.
But it wasn't just about fastest times: many of the competitors were there to put on a show and the spectators were treated to plenty of tyre smoke, locked brakes and power slides throughout the day.
Not only did Ancaster sponsor the event but they also had something of their own for the motoring enthusiasts who attended. With their full range of Nissan, Fiat and Hyundai vehicles available on display and a designated area to view their Nissan high performance centre vehicles which included the legendary GT-R Supercar along with the stunning 370Z convertible sports car.
But the fun didn't stop there! Ancaster also invited spectators to put their own racing driver skills to the test in their F1 Simulator. The Simulator was charged at £5 per ticket and all proceeds which totalled over £350 were donated to St Christopher's Hospice and Royal London Society for Blind People.
In addition to the money raised by Ancaster a total of over £3,000 was generated for the charities from the Motor Sport competitors and exhibitors.
As a local business Ancaster believe that it is important to give something back to the community and would like to give a huge thanks to all the drivers, officials, marshals and spectators who helped make this year's event such an enjoyable occasion.
We hope to see you again next year for another two days of motorsport at Crystal Palace!
