There were celebrations at Ancaster Penge following news that staff member Keith Morris has been crowned Veteran World Kickboxing Champion.
Keith, who has worked as a Car Preparation Supervisor at Ancaster Penge for over 30 years, was invited to attend the World Kickboxing Championships in Austria. When Ancaster found out about his exciting opportunity they were extremely keen to get involved and offered to sponsor the trip.
Both Keith and the whole team at Ancaster Nissan Penge were delighted when he returned as the World Veterans Champion - an even more impressive feat when you consider Keith was actually fighting two weight divisions above his own.
Keith, who trains at The Paragon Gym in Shoreditch, didn't begin kickboxing until he was in his mid-thirties. Since then he has risen through the ranks to become one of Britain's most respected fighters and in his heyday became the outright British number one. Now 51, many would have considered his world-beating days behind him. Keith, however, undertook the challenge with the confidence and self-belief that his years of training had instilled in him. He said: "I was really up against it because the favourite was Austrian and the home crowd were really behind him. However, I never go into something half-heartedly - I went to Austria to win and am elated to have achieved that.
When asked about his future in kickboxing, Keith says he is not planning to defend his title next year: "I won't be fighting on the world stage again. You have to quit while you are ahead and it is always good to go out on top. I plan to continue in the sport though, primarily teaching, but also fighting occasionally."
